Congratulations to Janai Smith on her election to the board of Southwestern Pennsylvania Engineering Outreach (SPEO). SPEO provides guidance and mentorship to MWBE owned engineering firms enabling them to be successful members in the regional business community.
As a second generation leader in her firm, Janai already follows SPEO’s mission by establishing collaborative partnerships with other MWBE firms for engineering projects. Janai states “As a minority – and soon to be – woman owned firm, it is important to me to promote the same diversity not only in my workplace but to empower other minority and woman owned firms to assume leadership roles in our industry.”

E. Holdings, Inc. was awarded a contract to begin work on New Granada Square. The Hill CDC won a grant from Allegheny County’s CITF in 2017 for this project. The Community Infrastructure and Tourism Fund (CITF) from Allegheny County‘s Department of Economic Development will provide the funding for the New Granada Square water and sewer tap-in required to bring the historic building closer to completion and reinstatement as a community asset.
Recently New Granada Theater’s exterior was updated with new glass and doors in addition to the renovation of the 1,200 sq ft. interim use space that will open as HillWorks later in 2019.
We look forward to being a part of restoring this neighborhood landmark and revitalizing a key corner of the Hill District.
